Intelligent youth grow up drinking more...

Many would argue that drinking more shows lack of intelligence, but studies show that children who tested higher in intelligence drank more through early adulthood and into their forties as reported by Discovery.com News.

Children in England under the age of 16 were measured on a scale of "very bright" to "very dull" and revisted in their 20's, 30's and 40's.  The results showed that "Very Bright" children drank "nearly eight tenths of a standard deviation" more than those rated "very dull".  (Anyone know how much 8/10's of a standard deviation is when it comes to drinking?)

The study controlls the demographic variables such as earnings, marital status, parent's earnings that could also have an effect on drinking.

That is one of the findings from data from the National Child Development Study in the United Kingdom and the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health in the United States.

FYI- This study does not say it is smarter to drink more or drinking will make you smarter. If this is what you gathered from the study, you were probably not rated "very bright" to begin with so no worries.
